Artist spotlight: chel eva
Chel is a Norcal native whose passion for photography began over 30 years ago as a nature and portrait photographer, developing pictures in the basement of her childhood home. A noted and published photographer and author, Chel grew up listening to a wide array of music: from Simon and Garfunkel and Blondie to Blue Oyster Cult, Quiet Riot, and Y&T. Chel has appeared in movies and magazines but it was her passion to connect fans to bands that drove her to start photographing bands that would come to Sacramento.
In 2019 she began photographing bands at Ace of Spades and Holy Diver. Then the pandemic hit and she took her camera to the empty streets of midtown Sacramento and chronicled the ghost town the pandemic drove us to.
In 2022, Chel picked up some gigs photographing bands like Crowbar, Poppy, Cannibal Corpse, and Whitechapel, to name a few. One day, Chel got to an event a bit early and heard the opening local band and she was hooked. The local bands are sometimes better than the headliners and Chel felt strongly they deserved photos worthy of their awesomeness. So, she began her journey to support local bands and the rest is history!
